Truth

Fall '20

Women I have met and continue to meet endure the insecurity they deal with, especially when it comes to the beauty standards of fashion. Body types are taken for marketing and trends in the industry. First, the double zero waists, lean and tall - now the hips of a woman of color. Then, the idea of fairness to a slight tan is just enough to make you look ambiguous, as seen in the magazine model. Yet, there is still a lack of diversity of body types and skin tones in the end. Or just the absence of one's natural beauty.

In this collection, I am using my experience from women I've learned of who endure these harsh mental effects of changing beauty trends and still taking care of their loved ones. These are strong women who deal with the oppressive reality – sturdy like trees even. Whether from before my time to now. I want to create a new reality where all women are in this inclusive, safe diversity. Where a plus-size woman doesn't always have to wear sexy apparel to be accepted so, creating a feminine and elegant with hints of cuteness design - an expressive fairytale aesthetic. While still paying attention to how the fabric will drape on their bodies.

And these women I see remind me of the mother trees as they nurture others and endure the adaptation each season to season.
